Programme

The following are upcoming scheduled meetings at Whitchurch Hill Camera Club. We meet at Whitchurch-on-Thames Village Hall every Wednesday evening at 8.00pm from September to June and additional Practical Group Meetings take place on Thursday evenings. If you want to get an idea of what you may have missed, the programme archive is available. Reports on previous meetings have been lovingly prepared with style and wit by WHCC member Ian Lewis, with occasional reports by Alan Copeland.

There is also a varied programme of Summer Meetings: The Club continues to meet throughout July and August when the opportunity is taken to visit local venues in a series of Field Trips. Locations are found to give the maximum potential for creative photography and technical help and guidance is freely given by experienced Club members.

The Programme Secretary is always looking for suggestions or volunteers for the new season. If you would like to share your interests with fellow Club members or have any suggestions for future speakers or other meetings, please contact him.

By popular request, Damon Guy makes a return visit to explain what an abstract is and what we should look for when making one. Photographers often find abstracts difficult to understand. In response, judges often see a fuzzy concept. Learn about abstract art and the feeling that goes into the shots.

Rod Bird presents a look at some of the images which have become well-known over the 170 years since photography was invented, ending with a look at how this history influences club photography today. There will be lots of opportunities for audience participation.

THE IDLE RICH - SLIDING INTO DIGITAL

Leo Rich ARPS EFIAP/g DPAGB APAGB recalls his conversion from slides to digital with his first steps being taken in 2004. He includes examples of images which were originally slides, scanned to digital, many of which were taken on his many visits to India. An entertaining evening is guaranteed.

Darrell Godliman presents a selection of his best architectural images arranged in the chronological order of the buildings. The talk includes a wide range of photographic styles, techniques etc and there's several step-by-step sequences showing his most used techniques. A lot of the images have been taken on Darrell's travels so his presentation should have a wider interest than the genre might imply.

ITALY, EXPLORING VENICE AND SICILY

Eric Needs presents images from two iconic Italian locations with a mixture of history, geography, tourist tips and holiday snaps. Venice is rich in immediately recognisable sights but also has many 'hidden gems' to discover. Sicily has a dynamic history as the island has changed hands many times - Greeks, Byzantines, Norman Crusaders and others have all left their mark.

Local photographer Nick Brazil explains the extraordinary lengths he went to after discovering photographs taken in the North West Frontier from 1915 to 1919 in the first World War. In the second half, he takes us to Peru, the fascinating home of the Incas. His images show this fabulous land of ancient cultures and monuments such as Machu Picchu and the enigmatic Nazca Lines.

Robert Pugh talks about his photography and use of Sony mirrorless cameras, explaining the technological advancements and innovations in Sony Full Frame mirrorless cameras and how these have improved his photographic workflow. Robert will then feature his work and personal projects - plenty of examples of pictures and explanations of how the photos were created. Robert will also cover lighting diagrams to show how the subject was lit for the shot.

Marilyn Ward LRPS CPAGB is in charge of this fun evening when the club will be split in to two teams and we will have two laptops, two projectors and two screens. Marilyn will read the poems of Pam Ayres and, at the end of each poem, select one word. The two teams must then select an image which closely matches the selected word.
