The following are upcoming scheduled meetings at Whitchurch Hill Camera Club. We meet at Whitchurch-on-Thames Village Hall every Wednesday evening at 8.00pm from September to June and additional Practical Group Meetings take place on Thursday evenings.

The Programme Secretary is always looking for suggestions or volunteers for the new season. REVIEW OF LAST SEASON’S ONLINE COMPETITIONS

We will be viewing the images entered into the Natural History competition and the Picture of the Year competition last season and deciding whether the judge was correct in his comments.


Wed 16th September

JUDGING OF SUMMER CHALLENGE

Back in June, all members were invited to submit up to 3 images in any combination from the project subjects of In the Garden,  Still Life and Architecture.

We will be viewing the images this evening and all members present will be involved in the judging.

REVIEW OF LAST SEASON’S ONLINE COMPETITIONS

The last online competition last season provided the highest number of entries - the Monochrome Digital Image competition.  Once again, we look at all the images and hear the judge’s comments as we go.
         
We need you to bring along tonight your completed on-line Selection Evening Entry Form together with up to 6 Digital Images and 6 Prints for next week's Selection Evening.

SELECTION EVENING

A practical evening where all members have the chance to vote for their favourite prints and digital images to be used in future matches with other Camera Clubs.

DIGITAL COMPETITION No 1

We are expecting a large entry for our first open competition tonight which will be judged by Steven Galvin LRPS from the Marlow Camera Club.

MORE FORGOTTEN HERITAGE

The first highlight of the season is the return of Matt Emmett with a new selection of images of buildings and architecture which are no longer in use and have become derelict.  This involves entering all types of derelict and sometimes dangerous buildings to capture our glorious forgotten heritage. www.forgottenheritage.co.uk

Pauline Martindale takes us on a tour of our home country illustrated with superb landscape and natural history images.

PICTURES FROM A FORGOTTEN WAR and A BALKAN RAILWAY ADVENTURE

Local photographer Nick Brazil explains the extraordinary lengths he went to after discovering photographs taken in the North West Frontier from 1915 to 1919 in the first World War.  In the second half, he takes us on a railway journey starting in Pangbourne travelling over 3000 miles to the Croation port of Split on the Adriatic coast and back. Tonight, he covers the first half of the journey taking in historic cities such as Munich, Ljubliana Zagreb and Split. www.brazilproductions.co.uk

The first set subject this season is “Abstract”. Our images will be judged by Damon Guy from the Marlow Camera Club.

HOW TO CHEAT AT PHOTOGRAPHY

This provocatively entitled talk allows Steven Galvin to confess his sordid kiss ‘n’ tell secrets by demonstrating how he outrageously “manufactures” his images.  Steven challenges the audience to identify how images may have been “airbrushed”, covers the history of “photoshopping” and debates the ethics of just how far one should go.  A lively and fun night. www.stevengalvin.photography

THE MANY FACES OF PERU

Terry Pollard ARPS DPAGB takes us on a guided tour of this fascinating country including Colca Canyon and Condors, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca.  After the break, we journey to the North of the country to explore Peru’s ancient history.

ROSEBOWL COMPETITION – ROUND TWO

The second round this season is hosted by the Abingdon Camera Clun where we are joined by clubs from Harrow and Chesham.

CHERNOBYL AND PRYPYAT

Trevor Morecraft LRPS has spent 4 days from 2 trips (2016 and 2019) to the Chernobyl exclusion zone exploring the Power Station itself and the abandoned town of Prypyat. He delves into some of the history before the accident and photographically explores the deserted town, both outside and inside the buildings. With some photographic advice on the way, using Canon initially and latterly Olympus.   www.morecraft.com

TALES OF THE RIVERBANK

Leading Natural History photographer Jenny Hibbert MPAGB EFIAP/s AWPF shares her award winning images of wildlife that you will discover by the river. Images of birds, ducks, dragonflies, butterflies, salmon, otters and water voles to name just a few.

100 STRANGERS

Steve Myall EFIAP BPE4* recalls a project to approach and photograph 100 people in the street who are total strangers. Lots of technique tips in both the photography and getting strangers to agree to being photographed.


Wed 20th January

THE MONOPOLY PROJECT

Peter Merry LRPS visited over 40 locations walking more than 70 miles photographing London sites included on the London Monopoly board. The project took one year to complete and tonight he shows the fruits of his labours which include images of a drugs deal in the West End and a Czech Army T-34 tank just off the Old Kent Road. www.petermerry.co.uk

SELF-DRIVE SAFARI IN NAMIBIA

Richard Gillams recalls his recent visit to Namibia, camping on the roof of a hired truck and driving across a large part of this Country.  He found stunning landscapes, amazing wildlife and beautiful night skies. Camping and National Parks accommodation in Namibia and South Africa are great value and provide freedom to explore.

ROSEBOWL COMPETITION  -  ROUND THREE

For the final round, our images wing their way to the Northfields Camera Club who meet in Ealing.  They will be joined by images from the Stoke Poges and Marlow clubs

DIGITAL COMPETITION No 3

“Silhouettes and/or Shadows” is the Set Subject for Round 3 this season  -  our images will be judged by Kevin Day from the Stoke Poges Photographic Club.

LANDSCAPE AND PEOPLE

John Tilsley APAGB DPAGB ARPS shows a selection of highly imaginative landscape images taken in Finland, Iceland and Canada as well as East Anglia along with some superb images of great and characterful people attending events including military re-enactments, folk festivals and the New Forest Pony Sales.

MY PHOTOGRAPHY – with PAUL STANLEY FIPF EFIAP/g

An active member of the Dublin Camera Club, Paul shows his approach to making his images - which are mainly "traditional" photography - and are in the genres of Travel, Landscape, Long Exposure and Architecture.  Paul is currently the FIAP Liaison Officer for Ireland.

WILDLIFE OF TEXAS AND GREAT BRITAIN

Colin and Pauline Thornhill both DPAGB were recently awarded the prestigious Roll of Honour by the Southern Counties Photographic Federation for their excellent Natural History images.  This evening, they show a selection of their work taken in various venues.

ME AND Mr GRUMPY

Louise Walton CPAGB along with her partner Mr Grumpy, Gary Langley DPAGB present a mixture of both their work that they have taken together over the past years.  Louise and Gary will talk about their images separately with quips and stories along the way.

DIGITAL COMPETITION No 4

There is no Set Subject tonight when our projected digital images are judged by Julia Cleaver ARPS from the Imagez Camera Club.

6 x 4 COMPETITION & DISCUSSION EVENING

This very popular competition which we can all enter will be held in the first half of the evening.   The second half of the evening gives you the chance to vote for Set Subjects which will be used next season.

A PHOTOGRAPHER’S JOURNEY

Robert Pugh talks about his photography and use of Sony mirrorless cameras, explaining the technological advancements and innovations in Sony Full Frame mirrorless cameras and how these have improved his photographic workflow. Robert will then feature his work and personal projects — plenty of examples of pictures and explanations of how the photos were  created. Robert will also cover lighting diagrams to show how the subject was lit for the shot. www.rpphotographybydesign.co.uk

Our Chairman, Alan Copeland LRPS APAGB introduces a further selection of sequences covering a wide range of subject matter.  He will include a number of his all time favourites including the Phantom of the Opera.

JPCR 6-CLUB COMPETITION

The Reading Camera Club are the hosts for this year’s competition which features the very best images from six local clubs.  This major competition will be judged by Caroline Colegate ARPS APAGB from the Bracknell Camera Club.

PICTURE OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

Our digital images and prints are judged by Kathy Chantler ARPS from the Imagez Camera Club. The very best work from the four rounds of this season’s ladder competitions (excluding the Natural History competition) is brought together to find the best shot this year

JAPAN AND BRAZIL

One of the club’s finest Natural History photographers, Nigel Glover-Wright LRPS shares his images taken in the winter snows in Japan and the Pantanal area of Brazil. http://www.duma-images.co.uk

AN EVENING OF POETRY READING

Marilyn Ward LRPS CPAGB is in charge of this fun evening when the club will be split in to two teams and we will have two laptops, two projectors and two screens. Marilyn will read the poems of Pam Ayres and, at the end of each poem, select one word.  The two teams must then select an image which closely matches the selected word.

THE WINNERS ENCLOSURE AND TROPHY PRESENTATION EVENING

An evening of photographic excellence. Prints and digital images from the trophy winners, competition winners and any member scoring 18, 19 or 20 this year. Enjoy again all the winning shots with a few tales as to how they were captured.

8 by 10 EVENING

Once again, 8 club members share their digital work for a maximum time of 10 minutes each. A superb evening’s entertainment covering a wide range of subjects.  No judging – no marks.  Just a relaxing evening to end the season.
