This evening saw the first of our guest speakers for the season. Terry Pollard came to take us on a "South Island Adventure". No - not Hayling Island or the Isle of Wight but the other side of the world - South Island New Zealand!

Terry, it transpires, likes walking. He described this as a "rambling holiday" Rambling?? Up the odd 1000 metres or so and down the other side, over glaciers and across fields of bubbling lava-fed water sounds more like a heavy-duty hike to me!! We saw images of mountains, sounds (fjords), rocky coasts and huge crevasse-ridden glaciers. This was where they filmed Lord of the Rings - and one half expected to see Gollum crouched in a corner of a photograph!

The images showed this to be a truly breath-taking country - as our erstwhile Chairman will no doubt confirm, so thank you Terry, for taking us on this journey and perhaps whetting our appetites to travel there ourselves (next year's club outing???).
