An Evening of Digital AV

posted by Ian Lewis in Club Meetings

Stan Hill, a dentist from Pinner CC showed us 10 AV sequences ranging from the heat of Africa, namely Botswana, Namibia, and Zululand in South Africa to the cold of the glaciers in Canada interspersed with sequences in Portugal and England.

Stan was born and raised in Botswana therefore he knows the country extremely well and for nature lovers 'The Call of the Wild' and 'The Okavango Delta' featured spectacular shots of the mammals and birds whereas the Namibia sequence featured some stunning landscapes of the massive sand dunes. 'Ceremony of the Reeds' was a series of photographs taken of the Reed Dance where every year in September over 15 thousand Zulu Maidens gather at King Goodwill Zwelithini's royal palace for the Zulu Reed Dance . This is a cultural celebration that promotes respect for young women, and preserves the custom of keeping girls as virgins until marriage, it was extremely colourful and Stan was privileged to be in a position near the Royal area where the general public are not permitted and therefore was able to get some extremely close views of the ceremony.

Although Stan stated that he did not like the beach, his sequence titled 'Beach Day' featured some amusing candid shots taken on a beach in Portugal.

All the sequences were of superb quality and Stan's anecdotes and knowledge made for an excellent evening.
