In Pursuit Of The Light

What a great home-grown evening we had on 13th Feb! Two of our own photographers sharing their work’

The evening started with Ceri Jones – our multi-award-winning member who specialises in landscapes and especially woodland. And, of course, in the past year he achieved the winning spot in the Lee Filters section of Take A View – the Landscape Photographer of The Year competition. Congratulations Ceri!!

Unfortunately, he contracted a bug that day – but undeterred he produced a superb AV presentation to show us how he achieves his images – and he was with us in spirit!!

The presentation was titled 'In Puruit of Light' which really describes Ceri's approach to a T! It was a fascinating insight into the production of these photographs. We learnt of Ceri’s philosophy regarding his work and he showed us how he starts with what is already a brilliant image and uses his skills in computer work to produce something which is simply stunning! Great to see how these images are formed from the original conception to the final product – thank you Ceri.

After the break it was the turn of our erstwhile Chairman and photographer of the odd and unusual – Alan Copeland – freshly returned from New Zealand – to share with us his images from a recent trip to Bratislava. As always Alan has an eye for the oddities around him – and he was, true to form, able to find these in Slovakia! There were also fascinating views of the city – illustrating its history and culture. We saw public squares, shopping malls and architecture – including the rather forbidding blocks from the Soviet era. Plenty of sculpture in evidence too which was well captured by our intrepid photographer.

Many thanks to both of our presenters – it was a superb and varied evening - thoroughly enjoyed by all!
