Taste Of Cappadocia and Journey To The Coast
posted by Ian Lewis in Club Meetings
So on 22 November – only a month before Christmas – and there we were talking Turkey – yes – the country - not the poor unfortunate birds what’ll end up on the dinner table!
We went on our virtual tour in the expert company of Mark Buckley-Sharp ARPS CPAGB APAGB and Judy Buckley-Sharp LRPS CPAGB APAGB. Got a lot of expertise have these two – they’ve been exploring this amazing country for years and have learnt Turkish too! Their presentation this time covered Cappadocia in the first half and from there to the coast at Akyaka in the second half.
Stunning landscapes in Cappadocia aren’t there - especially when seen from a balloon! The strange rock formations formed by erosion just for example. Then there are the cave dwellings – and cave churches decorated with ancient frescoes – all beautifully captured on memory card by Mark and Judy.
We didn’t stay in the back of beyond though – we visited the city of Konya with its green- topped tower and the mysterious whirling dervishes.
And after the inland heat – where better to cool off than by the sea at Akayaka – plush hotels, restaurants and cafes!
A fascinating evening Mark and Judy – many thanks for sharing your experiences with us!
