Wildlife In Action

posted by Ian Lewis in Club Meetings

Well, we knew we were in for a great evening on 9th Nov ‘cos we were in the company of Mike Wilkes FRPS – a great wildlife photographer who also tells a good story. So we all flocked (good analogy with Mike there!) to the village hall in great expectation.

And we weren’t disappointed either! His presentation was titled ‘Wildlife in Action’ - and it did exactly what it said on the tin! We were treated to some really stunning images of British wildlife – some of it definitely ‘in action’ (honestly – the shocking things they get up to!). Not only does he travel to far-flung places to capture his images – many of the ones we saw were taken close to his home – very close as his back garden featured! (handy if you’ve got someone in the family to make nice wooden hides for you though!). He’s a great and knowledgeable bird photographer – indeed  one of the best – but his images of all forms of wildlife are simply superb! Takes amazing pics from his car too – and as a result of one of these photo sessions we played ‘spot the foxes’ – not easy!

But it’s not just the pictures – Mike tells the stories behind each in his own inimitable way, making the evening thoroughly entertaining as well as visually stunning! We’re now waiting for his next visit!
