A Tour Of How I Approach My Work and What Judges Look For
posted by Joyce Storey in Club Meetings
An evening with a difference -this week members were given the chance to see a judge’s own work and to hear exactly what judges are looking for in competitions. Julia Cleaver, who visited us last year to judge one of the print competitions, returned to show us her own creative, imaginative images and explain how she had produced them.
Julia gave us all the P’s , which she follows. Namely:
Polishing and, last but not least,
She went on to explain what judges are looking for:
Impact and interest
Manipulation and presentation.
In the second part of the evening a few brave members displayed their prints and digital images for intense scrutiny by Julia and other members, who suggested ways in which the images could be improved.
The whole evening was made most enjoyable by Julia’s keen enthusiasm throughout and we were all left with lots to think about.
