Ten Days in the Masai Mara

posted by Ian Lewis in Club Meetings

This week it was back to Africa - this time in the company of visiting presenter Derek Trendall - as you might expect - lots of things wot eat you if you're not quick enough with the shutter! Derek survived this though to create this presentation entitled "Ten Days in the Masai Mara"

Great images - not just of the animals but of their environment - it gave us a real feeling of how they live. Dinner was high on the agenda - including a great sequence of shots of a cheetah stalking and running down her prey! Superb back stories too so we knew what was behind each image. We were treated to some wonderful shots of the 'great migration' with thousands of wildebeest together with zebra crossing croc-infested rivers - and sometimes doing a quick return trip if the grass looked greener where they'd just come from!

Derek is a bird photographer and we saw great images of the feathered life of Africa - each one labelled. But not only birds - we were introduced to the big cats of the area - lions, leopards and cheetahs (the last keeping our Nigel happy!) together with elephants, giraffes, zebras and the odd snake!

A superb evening - thank you for sharing your images and stories with us Derek - and we look forward to your next visit in the not-to-distant future!
