Print Competition No 3
posted by Ian Lewis in Club Meetings
This evening the faithful flocked to the village hall in Whitchurch-on-Thames for the third of our print competitions. This time it was "Contre-jour" - or don't-look-into-the-sun-it'll-give-you-a-headache!!
A challenging subject to do properly - and our members rose magnificently (as always) to the task! Plenty of backlighting and rim lighting creating haloes in hair and fur. Superb shadows were well in evidence too. Of course there were a variety of subjects - landscapes, plant life and portraits well to the fore in both monochrome and colour. Our judge for the evening, Julia Cleaver from the far north (Chinnor to be exact!) who's new to the circuit - gave extremely detailed comments on each image and finally gave us our winners for the evening.
Firstly then - those achieving the dizzy heights of 20s. In the monochrome section there was one - Ceri Jones with "Woodland Rays". In the colour section there were four! John Sexton with "Palm Trees at Dusk"; Rachel Paton with "Artistic Wall Lights" and Nigel Fenner with both "In the Woods" and "Lucy Roberts".
So now the winners! In the mono section three people shared third place: Bill Scott, Dorothy Ward and Nigel Farmer - all with 34 points. Second came Nigel Fenner with 36 points and in first place - Ceri Jones scoring 39 points. In the colour section second place was shared by John Sexton and Ceri Jones - both with 39 points (I just mis-typed that as 39 PINTS - wishful thinking!). In first place with a perfect score of 40 points was Nigel Fenner.
Congratulations to all high scorers and winners! Thanks as well to all who entered their prints to make it such a good evening. Finally, thanks to Julia for being our judge.
