Print Competition No 1

posted by Ian Lewis in Club Meetings

This week we all wended our way through the leafy lanes of Berkshire and Oxfordshire (and even further in some cases!) to Whitchurch-on-Thames for the second in our season's ladder competitions - exciting innit!!

Once again there was no set subject and the judge this week was Kevin Day all the way from Stoke Poges (Gray's Elegy and all that!). Mind you - the M4 did its best to stop him coming - but he manfully overcame all odds and appeared in time for the start!

And what a variety he had to contend with - landscapes, seascapes, architecture, wildlife and botany to name but a few - but open comps were ever thus!!

Despite the large number and variety of images, Kevin found time to give detailed and constructive comments on each print and did a great job in finally sorting out the winners. So which images gained the much sought-after 20s? In the monochrome section they were: 'Corfe Castle' by Trevor King; 'Steel, Wood and Glass' by Nigel Farmer and 'Snow Fields' by Ceri Jones. The star rating was awarded to 'Steel, Wood and Glass'. In the colour print section there were three 20s - 'Stonewashed Kimmeridge Bay' by Trevor King and 'White Tailed Sea Eagle' and 'Whooper Swans'- both by John Sexton. The star rating here was awarded to 'Whooper Swans'.

And who were the winners? In the monochrome section Trevor King and Nigel Farmer shared second place with 38 points with Ceri Jones coming first with 39 points! In the colour section Ian Nash came third with 37 points, second was Trevor King with 39 points ... and with a perfect score of 40 the winner was John Sexton!

Congratulations to all the above and thanks to all who entered and made this such a good evening!

Thank you also to Kevin for your excellent judging and comments - we look forward to your next visit later in the season (just avoid the M4!).
