Print Competition No2

Happy New Year! The first meeting of 2013 - and a ladder competition - the second print one, the theme this time being "Music". The judge this evening was Roger McCallum from the Woodley Camera Club (got a battle against them in a few weeks' time!) - so who would be saying "Thank You For The Music" at the end of the evening - or even "If music be the food of love....etc, etc"!
It's amazing isn't it how wide the interpretation of "Music" can be - that's one of the joys of these competitions - seeing how imagination and creativity can be stretched. There were, as expected, some really superb images in both the monochrome and colour sections with Roger providing throughout good, detailed comments spiced with a dry humour (we now know which image to sneak in to the forthcoming battle don't we!!!). This all made for a good entertaining and visually stimulating evening.
Well, at the end of the competition, much-coveted 20s were awarded to Nigel Farmer for "In the Spotlight" and Brian Jolley for "Music for Violin" in the monochrome section. John Sexton also scored 20 for both his colour entries, "Viol de Gamba" and "Rock Candy" (amazing - John photographing something that wasn't going to eat him!).
The monochrome print leaderboard showed Tony Bates and Brian Jolley jointly in third place with 36 points, John Sexton coming second with 37 and, in first place, Nigel Farmer scoring 39 points.
In the colour section, Nigel Fenner and Brian Jolley shared second place with 37 points each, the winner being John Sexton who scored the maximum of 40!
Congratulations to the winners and well done to all who entered - a great selection of images making judging extremely challenging! Finally, of course, many thanks to Roger for his judging and his humour - see you in a few weeks!
