Here we were for the first meeting of this season with a guest speaker. This evening we welcomed photographer Alan Fretten with a presentation called "A Little Bit of This, That and the Other"...hmmmmm!

What superb images we were treated to during the evening! Alan is clearly a master of a variety of photographic genres. His presentation started with motor racing - cars, motorbikes and lorries! We even saw a very junior, pre-F1 Lewis Hamilton! Alan went on to demonstrate his expertise in photographing fast-moving sports of all kinds with stunning action images. He proved that his skills also extend to capturing beautiful shots of wildlife and landscapes. It transpires that one of Alan's specialities is in photographing rock bands - he is the official photographer for Wishbone Ash! (now that takes me back -it's great to see another of the "old" bands still touring isn't it!) Stage photography is never easy - bright, constantly changing lighting from front, back and overhead together with the movement of the band members all adds to the challenge - but Alan has produced stunning images which bands such as Wishbone Ash use for publicity! Finally, we saw a series of images shot in the studio including superb portraiture and nude photography.

This was an incredible range of images for a single evening - and by one person. Judging by comments over refreshments and afterwards, we were all inspired by the presentation! Thank you, Alan - we hope to see you again sometime!
