Print Competition No 4
posted by Ian Lewis in Club Meetings
It's that time already - the last of the ladder competitions! This week it was the turn of the prints - with no set theme. The judge for the evening was another of our favourites - Caroline Colgate LRPS who hails from Bracknell (I always use your family's products, Caroline!)
Well, with an open competition there's bound to be a huge range of subject matter and so it proved - a hard job for our erstwhile judge - especially as she was suffering a bit!!
First came the monochrome prints with a superb selection of moody landscapes, architectural shots, animals and shipping. In this section maximum points were scored by Shaun O'Brien for "Birdwatching" and Bill Scott for "Gold Hill" (even had somebody trudging along - probably clutching a loaf of bread - and not a brass band in sight!). Bill's image also earned a star! The winner of the mono prints competition was Bill with a total of 37 points, followed by Shaun in second place with 35 points. Sharing third place were Eric Needs and Tony Bates both with 34 points.
The colour prints were next (that's really stating the **!!#* obvious isn't it!) - and what a huge range of subjects here! We were treated to superb landscapes, portraits, travel, architecture and wildlife. Congratulations must go to John Sexton for his great images of lions - "Mountain Lion" and "Lion 1 - Warthog 0" both scoring 20 points! (hope you were using a very long lens, John!). Bill Scott featured well in this section too, his image "Backwater in Venice" also scoring 20. Other 20s were awarded to Nigel Farmer for "Blowing Dandelions" and Sylvia Blackmore for "Clevedon Pier". Stars were given to "Mountain Lion" and "Clevedon Pier". The overall winners of the colour print competition were John Sexton in first place with the maximum of 40 points, Bill Scott and Sandra Atkinson sharing second place with 37 points.
Well done to all who entered, the superb range and quality of the photographs giving us a really great evening. Thanks also to Caroline for her clear and helpful comments - hope she had a voice the next day!
Finally, congratulations to the overall winners of the print ladder competitions for this year. At the head of the mono print ladder is Bill Scott with 145 points followed by Eric Needs with 143 points and Tony Bates with 141 points. At the top of the colour print ladder is John Sexton with 149 points followed by Bill Scott with 148 points and Eric Needs with 145 points.
